Micro's getting soft

Back on October 19, 2012 ClockTowerTenants featured the MicroSoft “Surface” as it was launching two and one half years after the others.

Steve Ballmer was certain his tablet would come out on top.

You didn’t buy one. Did you.
 Admit it.

And so things did not go well for the MicroSoft tablet and by December, the brutal data was in.

That’s the Surface over there on the right in the chart, generating .15 units of web traffic for every 100 units on iPads.

Today Ballmer’s on his way out, being dragged behind a $900 million dollar Surface writedown.

With a Windows installed base 10 times the size of Apple’s, the Surface sold one device in this past quarter for every 7 iPads sold.

"I don't think anyone has done a product that I see customers wanting.", Ballmer said back on October 25th, 2012 on CNBC’s SquawkBox.

And with that, the Microsoft board asked for his resignation.
He’ll be gone inside a year.
