drive on the parkway.

park on the driveway.

Everyone knows that sidewalks are poured concrete.
We’ve chronicled that process here:

But do you know what’s underneath?

Those metal doors give access to a large,
empty void down there.

It’s hollow, enlarging the cellar.

So they bridge over it with steel.

But time and rain and road salt really take a toll.

So they replace the steel beams now and then.

Bricks and mortar help stabilize,

...until the steel is locked into place.

So keep in mind it’s often hollow underneath,
inside the curbline.

And in winter when it’s already under snowload?

Good news in case you’ve wondered, the Dating Report has released figures on our, er, communal activities.

The Upper East Side gets almost twice as much as the Upper West Side, and East Harlem romps most of all.

All you folks up near Pelham?
It’s time to make new friends.
And you vegans out in Williamsburg have nothing going on.

An attractive ex, his baby mama, is also a cop.

He had an enviable career with the NYPD,
 rising to Detective.

But according to FBI reports he was a jealous man,
suspicious that another policeman had taken up with his ex-girlfriend
and desperate to find out.

So he paid hackers over $4000 to hack into his fellow officers email and phone accounts, to reveal and record their passwords.

But the FBI caught up with him.
He's pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.
