taught by experts

September 16th, 1992.

David Dinkins was mayor and the NYPD was furious as they surrounded City Hall.

New York was a crime-ridden hell hole under Dinkins and the people were desperate for leadership.

A drug dealer pulled a gun on a beat cop.
The cop fired once, killing him.

Instead of praise, Dinkins visited the drug dealer’s family enraging the cops and compelling chants “No Justice, No Police!” and signs asking “Dear Mayor have you hugged a drug dealer today?”

Dinkins had one term.
He was replaced by prosecutor Rudy Giuliani.

A Democrat wouldn’t lead the city for another 20 years.

Bill deBlasio entered New York City politics
in the Dinkins administration.

baby, please come home

Imagine a legendary career spanning 6 decades charting radio hits and backing up acts like Elvis, Tom Jones, Cher, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, The Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen, the Ronettes and Bette Midler.

Now imagine a 30 year tradition of singing an R&B Christmas tune on Letterman that you first recorded in 1963.

And now imagine that this tradition draws to a close with this one, final performance, backed by Paul Shaffer and the NBC Studio Orchestra.

You don’t have to imagine.

Watch 73 year old Darlene Love rip this up!

It starts to snow about 2:15 and she reprises at 3:25.
Even Clinton loves her.

Then again, he didn’t miss many. :-)

sleep in heavenly peace

We’re so busy these days and we think we’re so modern.

“Gotta remember to buy stamps, order on Amazon and pick up the dry cleaning.”

Some are not as “modern” as we think of ourselves, so the PEW Research Center has put together a global survey to keep us in the know.

It involved more than 38,000 face-to-face interviews in 80-plus languages with Muslims in 39 countries across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Not knowing is one thing, but apparently PEW is hell-bent on education.

On the link below are 226 pages of facts about how the American future unfolds.

Eh, or not.

Perhaps we’re all just too busy.
