where does your neighborhood rank?

Take the number of people in a neighborhood and divide by the crimes per year, and you have the DNAinfo’s Crime and Safety report.

Head out to Staten Island if low crime is your priority.

The safest neighborhood in NYC is essentially a suburb of New Jersey, Tottenville is as far from the bustle as you can get.

The UpperEastSide comes in at #14, very safe and no surprise.

Washington Heights is in the middle of the pack at #24.

But safer than Woodside, Queens!

Coney Island is actually safer than both Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill in Broooklyn.

And our own Pelham Parkway endures fewer crimes than East Harlem or even hipster Williamsburg.

Home Sweet Home comes in at #59.

Mott Haven is not crime-free but still safer than Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill or even Dumbo.

As you’d expect Hunt’s Point comes in only three up from the bottom, but only two ranks lower than trendy Flatiron in Manhattan.

And still safer, statistically, than Greenwich Village.
Who knew?

The take-away?
Cliché’s are rarely true.

Relax and enjoy, we live in the greatest city in the world!

Speyside province north of Glascow in Scotland is a kind of Mecca for scotch lovers.

The pristine river Spey is tapped daily for wort, and the woodland floor offers herbal aromas distinct to the scotches from this region.

No fewer than 60 distilleries operate here,
and anchorman Ron Burgundy knows.

Now that ice cream and Dodge Durango’s are under his belt, he’s turned his attention to scotch whiskey.

The launch date for ‘Great Odin’s Raven Special Reserve’ is yet to be announced, but the advance tasting notes predict “a blend of whiskies from Speyside with a hearty fruity aroma”.

Now get down into mah belleh!

Burning objects associated with squalor or sin is a practice known as “The Bonfire of the Vanities.”

Tom Wolf’s 1987 bestseller used Mott Haven--literally on fire in those days--as a backdrop to depict the insatiable greed on Wall Street.

Fires were everywhere in the south Bronx.
Crime was out of control.

Today Mott Haven is just another gentrified neighborhood when compared to the 1980’s and 90’s.

Total crime in Mott Haven has dropped 72 percent from 1993 to 2010 in the 40th Precinct.

Later this week we’ll compare crime stats in 69 of New York City’s neighborhoods.

Hint:
We are statistically safer here than in Brooklyn Heights.
