they found little Annie all covered with ice

Now that winter's coming how about we start the weekend off with a swingin’ tune about a little girl who lost her parents at nine and then froze to death working in an unheated Bronx tenement?

Oh yeah!

The song “Artificial Flowers” from 1960 climbed the charts all the way to #20 in a big band arrangement swung hard by the incomparable Bobby Darin, born right here in the Bronx!

And if you think I’m the odd one for posting a song about a child labor death, remember the millions of Americans who actually bought the record in 1960, spending three months on the charts!

Have a listen, and great weekend!
