What would I give if my old know-how still knew how?

Eydie Gormé died yesterday at the age of 84.

If her name rings no bell you are probably too young to remember. Eydie Gormé was a smokin’, swing-band, singing star.

Born in the Bronx in 1928, she went to high school on 172nd Street before marrying crooner Steve Lawrence. Her biggest hit came in 1963 when she was 35 years old, “Blame it on the Bossa Nova” which sold well over a million copies.

In this digital era when recording artists do dozen of takes and then the best parts are spliced to a “performance”, Eydie stepped up to the mike and nodded to the conductor and layed it down in 3:02, radio-length, all in a single take.

Listen to how she puts this song over the top, my favorite from the Broadway show “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever."

Another great is gone. I loved her.
RIP.
