such a liar

What food is more Sunday morning comforting than waffles?
Let’s caramelize bananas in spiced rum.

Caramelization is so simple and bananas are perfect for it. Not too ripe, with a bit of rum, sugar and butter.

First make your waffles, any mix or recipe you like.

Now put 4 tablespoons of sugar into a saute pan over medium to high heat and shake it now and then.

We’re gonna melt it. Cut your bananas into long slices so they hold together in the pan.

Now we’re working quickly; turn the heat down as the sugar melts and gathers color.

Butter. Half a stick.

Bananas. Adjust heat up a little.

As they glaze, add about ¾ cup of rum.

You can see how carefully I measure this stuff. lol

Shake and saute´ down to the consistency of syrup.

That’s it. Plate a waffle, cover in hot bananas, drizzle with the syrup and add a scoop of ice cream.

WARNING.
This recipe is not nearly as tasty as it appears in the photographs.

  4. That appears to be a take on Bananas Foster, which I made on Thursday night. I used brown sugar, a splash of vanilla, fresh cinnamon, nutmeg, butter, and of course the rum. And like you, I also chose butter pecan icecream . . . YUM! Ms. Red

  5. It's all part of my healthy eating initiative, artgal. ;-)

And I could happily eat the New York Times with enough butter pecan ice cream, Ms. Red.
