and when I touch you I feel happy inside

2012

Azealia Banks is a Harlem rapper. She won American BillBoard and UK New Music Express awards this year. She’s just 21 years old.

Charismatic and popular with the high school and college set, she’s famous for her modern lyrics from “212”.

“now she wanna lick my plum in the evenin’,
And fit that t-tongue d-deep in,
I guess that cunt gettin eaten.”
And that’s just the first 45 seconds or so. She raps on:

“..like your boo won’t chew cock the gun too,
where do you eat poon hon?
I’m fucking with you cutie-q, what’s your dick like homie?”
Mm-hm.

Revolution is social context, I know, but still... we’re a long way from “I wanna hold your hand.”

1963

Oh yeah, I'll…...tell you something
I think you'll understand.
When I…... say that something
I wanna hold your hand.
I wanna hold your hand.
I wanna hold your hand.

And when I touch you I feel happy, inside.
It's such a feeling that my love
I can't hide
I can't hide
I can't hide.
This was modern in its time, too.

Does any of this matter?
I wonder sometimes.

Happy New Year
