flowered, then gone to seed

Knightsbridge, home of Harrods, is a very exclusive section of London.

I first stayed there at the Basil Hotel in the late 1980’s.

The Basil was a wonderful old classic.

But H&M decided they needed more retail space.

The Basil was lost to the creep of throw-away clothes.

I’ve stayed at the Washington in Mayfair.

And the Flemings down the block.

And the Savoy, just off Trafalgar Square.

But nothing has replaced the sense of home,
I felt in a room at the Basil.
