After Bill Gates handed MicroSoft to Steve Balmer in 2000, the company changed its focus.
Balmer wrung out the desktop instead of innovating mobile for the cloud.
He made money, but lost the race to our mobile future.
Gates quit the firm entirely in 2008 and the company has been in need of a hit ever since.
So...imitation being the most sincere form of flattery, MicroSoft opened their own Apple Store at 677 Fifth Ave.
I visited and took a tour with 2 execs last week.
You already know this stuff; the staff is dressed
in matching t-shirts with their cards hung around their necks.
It’s a familiar, bi-level, glass experience with a glass elevator.
They have a genius bar, too.
These are Apple Store glass steps:
These are MicroSoft glass steps.
Hm. Innovation.
All they need now are the crowds.
