as we do

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that a hot grill and cold beer are not the reasons we take a day off.

Young people have been leaving their families and losing their lives to some fucked-up war all throughout our history.

Decoration Day was the final Monday in May, originally to observe the sacrifice of Civil War soldiers.

Today we honor all who gave their young lives for the freedom we take as common sense.

But our liberty is anything but common.

We enjoy more freedom and opportunity here than anywhere else on earth.

Suspend immigration rules for just one day and the world would pour in through our borders.

Today remembers all the heros who gave a life, so we can drink and grill and party as we do.

Give your thanks. Or say a prayer.

And have a safe and very happy holiday.
