Today is Press Freedom day and the news is not encouraging.

Japan, one of our most important allies, dropped 11 places in the rankings to #72 for their secrecy about the Fukushima nuclear crisis.

Turkey, our closest ally in the war on terrorism used bolt cutters to take over their largest newspaper in a midnight raid in March. They rank 151st.

In fact, of 199 countries almost 7 in 10 are listed as “not free or only partially free”, where the news is first edited and approved by local government.

How is this loss of press freedom even possible? 

For the first time in human history, 

we’ve raised a generation more focused on themselves 

than outward and relating to each other.

Government has been waiting for this.
