Forty percent of the average city’s electricity is used for street lighting.


Energy consumption in New York City decreased by 7.9 percent between 2005 and 2011 because of the growth in LED’s.


New York City will retrofit its 250,000 streetlights by 2017, which is expected to save $6 million in energy costs each year.
