milk of human kindness

Just over 100 miles northeast of New York City in Litchfield, Connecticut, is the amazing, world class Arethusa Farm.

Arethusa is not just any farm.

Owners Tony Yurgaitis and George Malkemus have assembled hundreds of acres and over 350 head of the world’s finest dairy cows, and the milk they produce has become world famous.

Their herd is comprised of Jersey’s, Holsteins and Swiss Browns.

The air is always fresh, the barns are immaculate and good music keeps the cows very contented.

In 2006 their prize winning Jersey Veronica — at 16 years old the Grand Dame of the farm — claimed Supreme World Champion honors at the World Dairy Expo.

Needing an outlet for their best-in-class daily products, they opened a farm store to showcase their milk, cream, yogurt, cheese, butter and insanely delicious, high-butterfat ice cream.

Their farm-to-table restaurant Arethusa al tavolo is always packed.

“Cheap and fast is good enough” has overtaken the modern world,
but not at Arethusa.

It’s comforting to know this kind of attention to the little things
 still exists.

And wins prizes for simple excellence. Year after year.

Thanks George and Tony!
