Ernest Hemingway (1898 - 1961) was an American novelist, short story writer and journalist born in Paris. He was a notable writer who achieved a cult-like popularity during his lifetime. His writing was characterized by economy and understatement and had a significant influence on 20th century fiction.

He won a Pulitzer in 1953 for his novel OLD MAN and THE SEA, the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954, then shot himself to death with his favorite shotgun in 1961 by putting the barrel into his mouth.
