What’s your favorite take-out and where do you get it?

Who in the neighborhood is reliable, delicious and well priced? And where are the good restaurants?
I’ll start this. I’m new here. Years ago in Manhattan a silver airstream Cuban/Chinese diner (right across Eight Avenue from the Joyce at 19th street) used to serve deep fried porkchops, yellow rice, onions and black beans with a big salad and an icy cold Corona. For a song. It was my Spanish dinner fix and I’d love to replicate it locally. Who in the neighborhood serves a great version of this kind of meal?

  1. Hi! You should hit up the deli on Bruckner just up the street from Alexander Ave. There's a little kitchen in the back and the lady cooks like my grandmother!

  2. Also, Taco Mix on 138th has great tacos "al pastor" and El Arca a few doors down towards 3rd ave has good roast chicken and authentic cafe con leche for only 1.25!

I don't remember the name of the place but it is two doors down from the corner store/deli on the North side of 138th street just east of Alexander. THey have/had $5 lunch special. I used to get a couple at a time and eat all week long for $20. Amazing!

  4. Yes, thanks! I'm also almost euphoric at the local supermarket prices. The same brands and sizes cost so much less!
